The eighth edition of the Kinotrip International Film Festival, the biggest event of Kinodvor’s Kinotrip film programme – by the youth for the youth, took place between 19 and 21 October 2023. The diverse film programme was carefully selected by thirteen high-school students, members of the Kinotrip Film Club.
At eight festival screenings, 966 visitors, most of them young, travelled across various film worlds. They were joined by interesting festival guests. Diane Ng, the co-director, co-producer and one of the DOPs of Hummingbirds (Silvia Del Carmen Castaños, Estefanía Contreras, Miguel Drake-McLaughlin) came to Ljubljana from the US. The young talked online with Zhi Wei Jow, the Singaporean director of Tomorrow Is a Long Time. Following the screening of The Lost Boys (Zeno Graton), they discussed the film representations of all kinds of love with Metod Zupan, a journalist and critic at Radio Študent. After the sold-out screening of the Kinotripie short film programme, they talked with two young filmmakers – Anne Tassel (Little Women, Nika Jurman) and Ema Paš (Razgled, Ema Paš).
At the festival’s closing event, the participants of Kinotrip’s pre-festival workshop presented their work. Under the mentorship of Matevž Jerman, Olga Michalik and Matic Zavodnik, eight young people made a video for Manzarek, a song by the well-known rapper Vazz.
