Thelma, a shy young woman from a strict and deeply religious family in the Norwegian countryside, has recently arrived in Oslo to study at university. While at the library she suddenly experiences a forceful and unexpected seizure, shortly after which she begins to feel an uncontrollable attraction for fellow student Anja. As the semester continues, Thelma emphatically suppresses her increasingly overwhelming desire for Anja. Meanwhile, her seizures begin to intensify and she must begin to face up to the dark truth about her past.

Quentin Dupieux (Daaaaaalí!) returns behind the camera with a provocative, absurdist yet hilarious love letter to terrible films and bad actors facing their characters and their lines. This is farcical, surrealistic cinema that only he is capable of – with a message, if not many – and starring his most A-list cast yet. Opening film of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
