The Island of the Sun in the middle of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia is a place that’s as mystical as it is picturesque. Lucía’s family lives there with their beloved alpaca, Panchito. After school, the girl and her father weave totora reeds into figurines that her mother sells to the numerous tourists. When her father leaves the island one morning for the capital city of La Paz, Lucía finds it difficult to cope with his absence. But the rhythm of life on the island and the passage of time cause her to rethink things. She realizes that she must choose her own destiny and that her father is no longer the person she longed to have back.

Catalina Razzini was born in La Paz on December 25, 1984. She graduated from UMSA with a degree in Literature and has a degree in film directing from the Catholic University. She has a Master’s degree in film directing from the TAI school in Madrid. Sun and Daughter is her debut film.

»This kind of migration from the country side to the big city is a real issue in Bolivia, and I think in a lot of others parts of the world. The attention that is always given to this type of family breakdowns is focused on the adult who leaves and almost never on seeing how important this absences is and how influences on our ways of growing up. My intention was to bring a story belonging to a very specific and hermetic context and open it through and intimate story with wich we can generate bridges of understanding each other between cultures in order to scape on the differences that separates us.« (Catalina Razzini)
