IMDb

What seems to be the last remaining human family on Earth hide in an ornate bunker built deep inside a salt mine after environmental collapse has destroyed society. Born in this compound, George is a naive twenty-year-old who has never set foot in the outside world. He spends his days working on a dubious book with his father, a former energy tycoon, while his mother frets over the upkeep of the many priceless paintings and artworks adorning their walls. But when a woman from the outside arrives at their doorstep seeking refuge, the family’s delicate dynamic starts to crumble as George begins to question the apparent normality of their life.

“Musicals are a uniquely American form that embodies a uniquely American cultural phenomenon of radical, groundless optimism. This family, in denial about helping to bring about the end of the world, is trying to celebrate their future when there is no future. That’s just ripe for music and song and being explored in the tradition of the great American musical.” (Joshua Oppenheimer)
