It all began twelve years ago when the young aspiring director accidentally met a group of kids. Despite their age difference, they quickly became friends. David became their unofficial babysitter, constantly following them with his camera. Through entertaining and, at the same time, daredevil street scenes, we witness the passing of childhood, which is tipping into a not so rosy youth. With trouble at home, failure at school and a lack of perspective, Sanyi seeks solace among kindred spirits. But then a careless moment changes his life forever.

Let film take you away on the skateboard of a young rebel!

»I feel we fuelled Sanyi’s creativity. We did push him because we could see he was losing himself somehow because no one could see his talent – not the school, the social workers, his parents. All he ever heard from everywhere was that he was bad, stupid, guilty. It caused such confusion within him. On the other hand, that was balanced by our unconditional love. We wished, more than anything, even for the film, a happy ending. He was a hero and still is for us.«

Four Daugthers Les filles d’Olfa

Kaouther Ben Hania

Monday, 28. 10. 2024 / 19:15 / Small Hall

Olfa is the mother of four daughters. One day, her two older daughters disappeared to join Islamic extremists. The director replaces them with actors. As the real women confront their traumatic past, the actors face ethical questions about its portrayal. This richly awarded documentary is a slow-burning study of family trauma and an intimate journey full of hope, rebellion, sisterly love and intergenerational transmission of suffering and violence.
