The story of avant-garde artist Władysława Strzemińskega who in post-war Poland refused to compromise his art in the face of pressures from the communist regime, and rejected its demand that artists create in the language of socialist realism.

The last film from the late Polish master of cinematography Andrzej Wajda is a many faceted intellectual agitprop about the role of art and the meaning of the freedom of expression. A film about a charismatic, rebellious man destroyed by a totalitarian regime. Polish candidate for Best Foreign Language film at the 2016 Academy Awards.
