Ivo Ivo

Eva Trobisch / 2024 / 104 min / German

Focusing on the tension between a palliative care nurse’s optimism and the weight of her work, this unsentimental portrait of someone overwhelmed by the feelings she keeps bottled up inside poses a simple but essential question: Who cares for the caregivers?

cast Minna Wündrich (Ivo), Pia Hierzegger (Solveigh), Lukas Turtur (Franz), Lilli Lacher (Cosima), Johann Campean (Johann), Pierre Siegenthaler (Benedikt), Leopold von Verschuer (Henner), Wolfgang Rüter (Thorsten Brohnsdorf), Joanne Gläsel (Renate Brohnsdorf), Samy Challah (Jorgos), Benjamin Höppner (Bodo)

IMDb

Ivo works as a palliative home-care nurse. Every day, she visits families, couples and single people. From morning to night, Ivo drives around in her old Skoda which she has made into her personal living space. Here, she eats her meals, works, sings, swears and dreams. One of her patients, Solveigh, has become a close friend. Ivo has also formed a relationship with Solveigh’s husband, Franz. Day after day, the two work together to care for Solveigh. And they sleep with each other. As Solveigh’s strength ebbs away, she asks Ivo to help her die.

“Thanks to actress Minna Wündrich, Ivo possesses this unflinching brightness. Minna's Ivo is patient and gripping; she is strong – both mentally and physically – and possesses great empathy while at the same time being capable of emotional detachment. These are all attributes that we have often observed in people who consciously choose this field of work.” (Eva Trobisch)
