Laura, an academic and botanist, has vanished. Two men take to the road in search of her: they both love her. Why did she leave? Each one of them has his own suspicions and hides them from the other one who never truly becomes his rival. The first, six-chapter part alternates between two timelines and two quests: Rafael and Ezequiel’s search for Laura, and flashbacks to Ezequiel and Laura’s attempts to track down the identity of Carmen Zuna, a schoolteacher who had a passionate affair with a local landowner in the 1960s. Laura finds their erotic love letters hidden away in books at the library and becomes enamoured, her passion soon infecting Ezequiel.

“This film is part of a larger idea: a group of films where the same character lives different lives in different towns in the province of Buenos Aires. The first film of the saga is called Ostende and it’s my first film as a director. The character – Laura – is always performed by Laura Paredes. /…/ What crosses the whole saga is a central idea: a female Sherlock Holmes ‘of sorts’ lost in towns, keener for adventures than anything else. A film composed by different kind of women.” (Laura Citarella)

On 12 September 1919, a troop of some three hundred soldiers under the leadership of the flamboyant war-loving Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio swooped into the Northern-Adriatic port town of Fiume, now Rijeka, wanting to annex the city to Italy. Over the course of the next 16 months, during what is regarded as one of the most bizarre militant sieges of all time his official photography team captured over 10,000 images. A century later, Igor Bezinović orchestrates a direct-action history lesson focused on the siege and its modern-day implications.
