Film Under the Stars
On midsummer nights, film stars come to life in the courtyard of Ljubljana Castle. A programme of five premieres and this season’s best films has been put together by Kinodvor, in collaboration with the City of Ljubljana and Ljubljana Castle.
Films are screened in their original language with English subtitles. English-spoken films are screened with Slovenian subtitles only.
Cancellations will be announced at www.ljubljanskigrad.si and www.kinodvor.org by 19:00 on the day of the scheduled screening.

This is farcical, surrealistic cinema that only he is capable of – with a message, if not many – and starring his most A-list cast yet. Opening film of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Film Under the Stars
In the event of rain or a bad weather forecast, screenings will be cancelled. In the event of cancellation, the films will be screened the following evening at 21:00 at Kinodvor. In the case of Avant Premieres and Premieres, two additional screenings will take place the following night at Kinodvor.
Tickets for cancelled or interrupted and then cancelled screenings can be exchanged for one of the following options:
- tickets for an alternative screening: at the Kinodvor box office until the theatre is full (note: the number of ticket at Kinodvor is limited);
- tickets for the screening of another film from the programme of Film Under the Stars: at the cash desk of the Entrance Pavilion at the Ljubljana Castle and at the lower funicular railway station;
- refund of the purchase price: at the place of purchase until 26 August 2024 After this date, the exchange of tickets for the purchase price will not be possible. Tickets purchased through online sales can be exchanged for the purchase price at the cash desk of the Entrance Pavilion at the Ljubljana Castle and at the lower funicular railway station.

We recommend that you choose to walk to the Film Under the Stars venue. Walking is the most natural, healthy, and relaxing method of mobility. But we often forget that and use cars even to cover short distances.

- Študentovska pot (Students’ path Street)
Nearest bus station: Krekov trg, Zmajski most
Walk to Ljubljana Central Market at Vodnikov trg Square and then turn into Študentovska ulica Street, which ascends the hill towards Ljubljana Castle. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the Castle, which gives you the chance to admire the old city streets, houses, and squares from a bird’s eye perspective.
- Reber (Reber Street)
Nearest bus station: Gornji trg
From Gornji trg bus station head in the direction of Stari trg Square and across Levstikov trg Square. After 150 metres turn into Reber, a narrow flight of steps winding up between some houses, which will take you to the Castle. After 150 metres turn left into Mačja steza Street. From here it will just take you a couple of minutes to reach the wall of Ljubljana Castle.
- Ulica na Grad (Castle Street)
Nearest bus station: Gornji trg
From Gornji trg bus station head across Levstikov trg Square to Rožna ulica Street. From here, pass St. Florian’s Church and head straight towards Ulica na Grad Street. After 100 metres turn right into Osojna pot Street or Osojna steza Street. From here, it takes a moderate 10 minute walk in the shade of some trees until you reach the entrance to the Castle .
- Past Stolba Street
Nearest bus station: Krekov trg, Zmajski most
From the bus station head towards Steliška ulica Street. After 100 metres turn right into Lončarska steza Street and after a couple of metres take a sharp right turn into Na Stolbi Street. From here, you are just a 10-minute walk away from the Castle through the forest.
You can also reach Ljubljana Castle by funicular. The return ticket price for Film Under the Stars spectators is EUR 3.00.
Conditions for entry to the funicular railway:
- for persons over 12 years of age, a negative PCR test result no older than seven days, o
- for persons over 12 years of age, a negative rapid antigen test result no older than seven days, or
- proof of having recovered from the COVID-19 virus no older than six months, or
- a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19 (the period since receiving the vaccination must be: at least 7 days since the second dose of Pfizer, at least 14 days since the second dose of Moderna, at least 21 days since the first dose of AstraZeneca, at least 14 days since a dose of Janssen).

Tickets cannot be booked in advance.
Wheelchair users and an accompanying person are entitled to free tickets. Tickets can be picked up on the day of the screening.

Due to the bad weather forecast, the screening of Ingeborg Bachmann – Journey Into the Desert was cancelled. You can see Ingeborg Bachmann – Journey Into the Desert today, on 24th July at 9 PM in Kinodvor (the number of seats at Kinodvor is considerably lower than in the castle courtyard).
